Species + Ecosystems
Keystone species such as rhinos and elephants are critical to maintaining the biodiversity of grasslands. In areas with rhino populations, there are 20 times more grazing lawns that support herbivores like gazelles, which add to the carrying capacity of predators such as lion and leopard. Since grasslands are carbon negative, it is imperative that we defend the species in order to protect the environment.
Long Term Sustainability
Economics matter. Wild space will only be maintained if it is the most valued use of the land, especially in countries whose populations are expected to double in the next generation. Horatius Impact works with entities that have viable, long-term economic models that are based upon conserving wild space and fostering resilient populations of wildlife.
